Testing is a large part (whether we like it or not) of school in North Carolina today. Throughout the year, your child will take several benchmark assessments so their teacher can measure their progress and intervene when necessary long before the End-of-Grade (EOG) test in May. At Lake Norman Tutoring, we want to help your child succeed in learning, but also at being able to display that knowledge through the assessments and tests that will be required of them. Helping elementary age children with test taking is a great way to build life-long skills that will serve them well throughout their academic careers.
There are several good opportunities where we can jump in and support elementary children with test prep tutoring, including after a less than stellar assessment, before annual EOG testing, and in kindergarten through third grade to give them an advantage when EOGs begin at the end of third grade.
Low Assessment Score
MAP stands for Measures of Academic Progress. These assessments are often used mid-year to measure a child’s progress and help teachers make informed decisions to improve academic growth. If a MAP score comes back in January or February with less progress than desired, it is a great time to take the extra steps to help a child get on track before the end of the year. Our elementary test prep tutoring not only addresses concepts or subject areas that are a challenge but will also help them practice displaying their skills during test-taking.
Annual EOG Test Prep
Depending on your child, the dreaded EOGs could be no big deal, or they could supply your household with a steady stream of stress from spring break until the middle of May. At Lake Norman Tutoring we offer great rates and expert staff to assist your child in grasping challenging topics, improving skills in any given subject area, and gaining confidence to make taking the EOG test less daunting. The spring is an important time for preparing children for the EOG so they can perform at their best when May rolls around.
Before 3rd Grade EOG
Parents of kindergarten, first, and second-graders often feel stress for years leading up to their child’s first encounter with the EOG in third grade. Sometimes the children also feel the pressure from the school at these young ages as the school becomes a quiet zone each year during the testing week and the stress from the older children is exhibited. With additional academic support in K-3rd grade with test prep tutoring and additional support in every subject area, your child can get ahead of the game and have an advantage when they arrive for their first EOG at the end of third grade. We’ll make sure they have a strong understanding of all of the most important topics and have even practiced taking a standardized test so that the act of taking the EOG does not interfere with their scores reflecting their capabilities.
Regardless of your specific needs, elementary children can benefit greatly from test prep tutoring. Our expert tutors will assess your child before developing a custom tutoring plan. If the act of test-taking is the issue, we’ll know, and we will focus more efforts there. If there is a specific topic or subject that they need help grasping, we’ll focus there. Our custom approach to test prep makes us a great choice for preparing your child for success. And our great rates make it possible.
